# Luma AI

Luma is used for creating 3D models for use in games, movies, or other 3D applications. As a developer, a designer or even business owner, this will come in handy to create 3D models with your smart device

In this guide, you will learn how to use Luma AI alongside SwiftXR through scanning your object with Luma, then publishing it as an interactive 3D or AR experience with SwiftXR's no-code editor.

You can find the official Luma 3D Capture app on the Apple App Store under Luma AI, Inc.&#x20;

#### Prerequisites:&#x20;

1. A Smartphone: Luma 3D Capture is currently iOS only, available on iPhone through the Apple App Store. There is no official Android version of the app at this time.&#x20;

If you're on Android and want to scan objects into 3D, Kiri Engine is a comparable alternative that supports both platforms, and the resulting model can be brought into SwiftXR the same way as a Luma export.

#### The Luma 3D Capture:

Download the Luma capture app and launch it. Sign up with your email and create your unique username&#x20;

Once you are In you will be shown the Luma capture Home Screen that looks like the image below&#x20;

#### CREATING A 3D MODEL

Luma AI’s technology is based on cutting-edge research in ML (machine learning) and computer vision, and it is constantly evolving to deliver unmatched quality and realism. Here's how to create a 3D model on Luma AI:

#### 1. On the Luma app click on the plus sign below.

#### 2. Start to scan:&#x20;

Position your object on a flat surface   then click on “start scan” to initiate the scanning process (Please note there needs to be even reflection of light on the image for easy scanning)

#### 3. Tap to place the bouncing box and ensure to enclose the object with the box&#x20;

#### 4. Start to capture the object while you collect all the loops.&#x20;

To collect the loops, position your camera at a parallel line to the that of loop then move around your object.&#x20;

#### 5. Export your model:&#x20;

Before exporting your model, ensure you name it first.  The Luma app wil then upload your model.&#x20;

Exporting Your Luma 3D Model - STL, OBJ, GLB, and FBX: Once your scan is complete, Luma lets you export your model in a few different formats, and the one you choose depends on what you're doing with it next:

* **OBJ**: A widely supported format for viewing and editing, works with most 3D software.
* **GLB**: The format best suited for web use, it's what SwiftXR uses for fast, browser-based 3D and AR viewing.
* **STL**: Commonly used for 3D printing, if that's your goal rather than a web-based viewer.
* **FBX**: Better suited for game engines like Unity or Unreal, if you're building the model into an interactive scene elsewhere.

For publishing with SwiftXR specifically, *export as GLB* for the smoothest, fastest-loading result on the web.

#### 6. Drag and drop on SwiftXR
